We read so many great books together during my daughter's kindergarten year! As we wrapped up the year, I asked her what her favorites were and this is what she chose. I'd have to agree- I think these were my favorite too!

The Boxcar Children- I read these as a kid and loved them! I was so excited to read them again with my daughter. We read the first two in the series together but didn't read any of the mystery ones. I love that the storyline is simple, it was very easy for her to follow along with. The kids are so polite, kind to each other, and very grateful for what they have despite hard circumstances.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory- I was a little nervous about reading this book because of how bratty the kids can be. I felt like they weren't nearly as rotten in the book as in the movie or maybe it's because there wasn't a visual with it- ha! I did "edit" out a few of the unkind words or attitudes that I didn't want my oldest to hear. But overall, it is such a fun, magical story! My daughter begged me to keep reading every time to find out what happened next.
Charlotte's Web- Such a classic! We fell in love with the characters and their lovely farm life. My oldest especially loved Wilbur and Charlotte. It is such a sweet story about friendship.
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz- This was my first time reading the book and I thought I knew the story because I've seen the movie. But boy was I wrong! Aside from the main characters and setting, the book is completely different. I loved that the Wicked Witch wasn't a huge part of it like she is in the movie. Just a heads up that there were a few parts that weren't appropriate/necessary for younger kids like the Tin Man violently chopping off an animal's head etc. But we loved their journey through Oz and how the main characters overcome their obstacles.
The Adventures of Sophie Mouse series- This is hands down our favorite book series! We read all of them this year. The stories are SO sweet and fun to read! I love the adorable illustrations and that they are animal and nature based. They teach good values like friendship, trying again, apologizing, and doing your best.
