Happy November! I’m always so glad when this month rolls around. October tends to be busy and crammed with Halloween activities so I always breathe a sigh of relief when we get to slow down and focus on gratitude.
Thanksgiving doesn’t have the parties, music, and movies that other holidays do so it often gets overlooked. I have found that reading Thanksgiving books in our home really helps us get into the spirit. We love to read turkey themed books as well as ones about the history of the Pilgrims and Indians.
Here are our favorite Thanksgiving books!
Turkey Trouble- A silly story about a turkey that disguises himself as different animals in hopes of hiding from the farmer who wants to eat him for Thanksgiving.
My girls LOVE this one and think it is so funny!
The Very Stuffed Turkey- Turkey gets invited by five friends to each of their Thanksgiving dinners. By the end, he has had enough!
The illustrations are super fun and colorful and it's a cute story about friendship.
God Gave Us Thankful Hearts- A super heartwarming story about Little Pup learning what gratitude is and how we can thank God for what we have.
I love this one for teaching littles about what we can be thankful for. It gets me teary eyed every time.
The Night Before Thanksgiving- A fun twist on the famous The Night Before Christmas.
The author has a book for each holiday. We own them all because they are just so fun!
Squanto and the Miracle of Thanksgiving- A non-fiction book about Squanto's life and how God prepared him to help save the Pilgrims.
This one is my favorite and I love reading it every Thanksgiving. The first time I read it, I learned so much about Squanto and the hardships he faced in his young life. This book is so inspiring to me- I am left in awe every time I read it! I love reading about the rich history of the first Thanksgiving and the power of God's hand in our lives.
Thanksgiving Day Thanks- A cute story about a little bear that isn't sure what to be thankful for. But in the end, he learns that his favorite thing is time with his family.
This Is the Feast- A fun, rhyming book about the first Thanksgiving!
Pookie's Thanksgiving- A short board book about Pookie and how he spends his Thanksgiving baking pies, visiting with grandparents, and being thankful.
My girls (especially my 2 year old) love this book. It's nice that it's so short but still so festive!
This Little Turkey-A Thanksgiving version of "This Little Piggy."
My girls love to read this one over and over. It's so fun and the rhyming is great!
Balloons Over Broadway- A true story about the puppeteer who invented the character balloons they use in the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade.
I grew up watching the parade on TV every year but I never knew the history behind it. It's such an interesting read!
A Turkey for Thanksgiving- Mrs. Moose wants a turkey for Thanksgiving so Mr. Moose goes out to find one. But instead of eating the turkey (like he thinks they are going to), they end up inviting him to Thanksgiving dinner.
This story is so cute and silly. The illustrations really capture fall and this time of year.
I hope you found some new books to try out! Happy Thanksgiving!
