Increasing Your Energy as a Homeschool Mom

Everyone wants and needs increased energy, right? But as a mom and a homeschooler, I have found that it is essential to have that extra energy. Here are some things that have helped me.

1. Getting to bed before 10pm.

This is a game changer for me. I'm one of those people that needs enough sleep or I can get pretty irritable. As hard as it is to get myself to bed, I remind myself that the next day will go much better (for me AND my kids) if I'm not tired and cranky.

2. Drinking enough water.

This has always been a tough one for me. I've tried a million different water bottles in hopes of motivating me to stay hydrated and none of them have worked. But recently, my friend introduced me to the Owala water bottle and it is my favorite!! I am finally getting enough water during the day and it has helped with my energy so much.

3. Eating meals instead of snacking.

I have never been a huge lunch eater for some reason. I love breakfast and dinner but lunch is always hard for me. As a busy mom of 3, it's so easy to forget to eat lunch or just decide to snack instead of making myself an actual meal. But I have found that when I take the extra time and effort to fuel my body with something high in protein or veggies in the middle of the day, it makes a big difference. I have more energy and don't get hangry.

4. Planning an outing for the day.

This may sound backwards but hear me out! Having an outing planned every day helps increase my energy. Sure, it takes more effort to get out of the house than staying home would but it gives us something to look forward to. When we get back from an outing, especially one where the kids and I got social time, I always feel so much better. Getting out of the house, energizes me so I can be more productive.

5. Exercise!

I have struggled with enjoying exercise my whole life. It has always felt like a chore to me. But now that I am no longer pregnant, it's a goal of mine to prioritize exercise so I can have increased energy and take care of my body.

Last week on instagram, I asked for help on what you do for exercise, good apps/websites you use, and how you stay motivated. I received SO much great feedback!! I looked into all of these options and have narrowed it down to a few that I'm going to try and see which one I like best.

I had lots of you ask me to share it. Here's what you all said!

Tips to get and stay motivated:

  • Find what kind of workout you enjoy.

  • Listen to fun music, a podcast, or audiobook while you workout.

  • Have a partner or group that holds you accountable.

  • Remember it takes awhile to get into a routine and see results, keep being consistent though.

  • Make small achievable goals at first then gradually build up.

  • Remembering you are setting an example for your kids.

  • Try a gym instead of doing it at home.

  • Reminding yourself that you will have increased energy to play with and keep up with your kids.

  • Try workout classes!

  • Reminding yourself that you will feel mentally and physically better when you do it.

I hope you found something from today's post that is helpful! Remember that as you increase your energy, you will be more successful in your home and homeschool. And I am not perfectly consistent with all of these things but I am working on them! We are in this together! :)
