My oldest is starting first grade level work this school year. Because she is so young, we are just focusing on core subjects- language arts, math, and handwriting. As she gets older, we will add in science and history.
All of her core materials this year are from The Good and the Beautiful. It is such a great curriculum and because it's open and go, it makes my life so much easier. Check out my blog post on why we love them so much! Here's our picks for this year:
Language Arts- The Good and the Beautiful Level 1
We absolutely love the language arts courses from The Good and the Beautiful! We have used them since preschool and it has given my daughter a very solid foundation in reading and phonics. I love that their language arts courses not only include reading, phonics, writing, literature, grammar, and spelling but geography and art as well. The course books are colorful and interactive.
We have loved the math courses from The Good and the Beautiful as well. The course books are full of colorful, short lessons that incorporate games to learn the math concepts being taught. My daughter loves the math box that comes with it! It's full of unique manipulatives that are used throughout the course. The Good and the Beautiful Math uses the spiral method, meaning they continue reviewing concepts previously taught so the child doesn't forget them. I have loved this method and so far it has really helped my daughter master and retain the concepts.
Handwriting- The Good and the Beautiful Level 1
The handwriting courses from The Good and the Beautiful are also very well done! I love that it teaches handwriting skills while making it fun at the same time. There is always a little picture to color at the end of the page when the child finishes. We will be supplementing with A is for Apple tracing book and Daily Affirmations Handwriting Workbook (not pictured).
Gospel Study- New Testament
We also include a gospel study in our homeschool, we call it "Time with Jesus." This year we are studying the New Testament. Every day we read a story from the Bible and the New Testament Stories. Then we complete a page or two from The Red Headed Hostess' New Testament Activity Book.
